Are you thinking about starting a new business or struggling to grow your existing business? I've been in your shoes! Or, since it's summer...your sandals!

I've decided to share some of my favorite books to help you on your entrepreneurial journey. I consider these MUST READS for your business success! And, since it's summer, I picked five that are easy to read in your lounge chair on the patio, by the pool, or at the beach. Enjoy!

1. The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It

by Michael E. Gerber

Many of us start a business because we have a specific expertise or passion. However, few of us are experts in running a business. And we often don't realize how much is actually involved in it. The growth of your business will be limited by your time, knowledge, and energy unless you systematize it and hire people to help you run it. "The E-Myth Revisited" is a brilliant story about the transition of an overwhelmed business owner into a successful leader and manager. This book changed my mindset about the way I operated my first business, so I was able to grow it and eventually sell it! If you want to grow your business, this book is a must-read!

Favorite quote from the book: "Once you recognize that the purpose of your life is not to serve your business, but that the primary purpose of your business is to serve your life, you can then go to work on your business, rather than in it, with a full understanding of why it is absolutely necessary for you to do so."

2. Building a StoryBrand: Clarify Your Message So Customers Will Listen

by Donald Miller

People love stories. The most powerful stories draw us in to the struggles and emotions the characters are experiencing. We empathize with them and connect with them at a deeper level through the story. We listen to stories at family gatherings, read about them in books, and experience them at the movies. Most people don't think about the power of storytelling in marketing. And when they do, it's often to tell the story of the company or the business owner. "Building a StoryBrand" flips this idea on its head. Donald Miller explains how to attract and connect with your target market by telling THEIR story first. It's a game-changer for successfully marketing your brand!

Favorite quote from the book: "Your customer should be the hero of the story, not your brand. This is the secret every phenomenally successful business understands."

3. The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles

by Steven Pressfield

Entrepreneurship is a creative endeavor. I have worked with hundreds of small businesses, in almost as many industries, and I can tell you that no two businesses are exactly alike...even if they are doing the same things. Why? Because each business is a reflection of its owner. In fact, it's one of the BEST things about owning a business. You get to create something from nothing! It's exciting and scary. The resistance you feel is real. Whether it's procrastination or self-doubt or something else, resistance will try to prevent you from succeeding. "The War of Art" will help you identify resistance and overcome it to bring your vision into the world!

Favorite quote from the book: "If you believe in God (and I do) you must declare Resistance evil, for it prevents us from achieving the life God intended when He endowed each of us with our own unique genius."

4. High Performance Habits: How Extraordinary People Become That Way

by Brendon Burchard

This book transformed my life! I had a great career in accounting and finance for 30 years, but I was yearning for something more...for a new way to contribute to the world. I lacked clarity about my new venture and had no transition plan; I was stuck. But everything changed after I read the "High Performance Habits" book. I decided to implement the habits, develop a vision, and execute a plan. I wrote a book, then quit my job and launched my coaching business. It took discipline and hard work, but I am living my best life now! Wherever you are on your journey to change your life or grow your business, these habits are foundational to your success!

Favorite quote from the book: "High performance is not achieved by a specific kind of person, but rather by a specific set of practices, which I call high performance habits. Anyone can learn them, regardless of experience, strengths, personality, or position."

5. Grow a Pair of Antlers: The Fearless Climb to Lead Your Herd

by Kathleen Ries-Jubenville

I wrote this book because I believe everyone has a God-given purpose that longs to be expressed. You may not believe you possess the education, talents, or skills to make a difference in the world, but I know you already have everything you need. In this book, I share stories of everyday courage to help you find the confidence you may have lost along the way. I describe the steps you need to take to manage change in your life and take control of your future. I equip you to Grow a Pair of Antlers and become a Fearless Climber, so you can Lead Your Herd with intention, courage, and influence.

Favorite quote from the book: "A Fearless Doe is a passionate visionary whose intentional purpose is to enhance other people's lives. She takes courageous actions to foster dignity for others through inspiration and opportunity. She is an influential leader who promotes love, respect, grace, and hope."
